Taking inspiration
from sources as diverse as Mayan Head dress, Contemporary painting,
his grandmothers dressing table and decay, Noel seeks to modernize
Millinery with a fresh look at how we dress the head.
With the casual and formal collections he is seeking to create a
more sympathetic form of head wear that, while challenging in choice
of fabric and form, is inherently flattering and covetable. He is
looking to introduce millinery to a clientelle that has not yet
been exposed to the thrill of wearing a hat. This is enhanced by
his continuing relationship with womens-wear designers who find
his ability to create pieces that are exciting in their own right
but enhance their own work without overpowering a presentation.
Before attending the Royal College of Art to do his Masters, Noel
had already worked with designers Dai Rees and Stephen Jones as
well as a stint as Stephen Joness assistant at Christian Dior
Haute Couture.
On graduating, Noel worked with Rachel Skinner and the Royal Milliner,
Philip Somerville. At the same time He launched his own label for
Autumn Winter 2003, which he sold to Barneys New York and Saloon
and Leluu boutiques in London.
He collaborated with hairstylist, Eugene Souleiman for Russell Sages
Spring Summer 2003 collection, and was the first milliner to work
with Roland Mouret who was nominated British Designer of the Year
at the UK Style Awards 2003. He produced hats for Roland Mourets
Autumn Winter 2003 collection, which was sold in Browns and Selfridges
in the UK and Aquaint in the US.
